Point of Interest

Hey guys! I was wondering if there was any discussion on what location we're choosing as our POI for the homework? If not--hoping to start one here since we're already cutting it pretty close to tonight's deadline.

Of the environments we already have, the best locations for a POI seem to be the Diner or Bar since the other locations are places our protagonist probably doesn't want to be in constantly (hotel, Knickerbocker's office, etc.).

  1. Sorry, I should have checked this earlier today.

I think the bar would be a good location, I can picture a lot of the character interaction happening there. There is a ton of reference for nightclubs in the 1940s, and restaurants and such. I still have a lot of reference photos from the earlier assignments.

I'm not sure how expansive Ant wants us to make this POI, but it sounds like this should be a place with lots of areas to explore. So maybe this can be a big lounge in the hotel, with a bar, a dance floor, dinner tables, and a stage for performers.

Or we could do something entirely different, if any other group members want to share their opinions! Errrgh...

I don't have everyone else's email...we definitely need better communication for the next couple weeks.

  2. Alright so I agree that the hotel is a good location as it could be the "hub" of the game where you come back after each mission.

So I guess we should research and gather references for art deco hotels around 40s.

Another idea for location within the hotel is the protagonist's room. I suggest room number to be 215 if you guys don't mind. Reference to hotel dusk haha

  3. One problem with using the hotel is that if it's brightly lit and full of people, it might not convey a strong film noir feel. Although there could be darkly lit tables in the corner where the characters have their conversations.

    1. I guess that the lighting might be a problem but I think the different parts of the hotel like you said (bar, dance floor, dining area, etc) could be used where the lighting wouldn't have to be as bright.
